Technology in the 21st century classroom

In this first class I learned how technology has changed over the years. I also learned that anything that allows for work to be done easier is considered technology. this may include pens, white boards and the like. In addition I learned, that there are many advantages to technology being used in the classroom as well as they are drawbacks of technology. Some of these drawbacks may include, inappropriate use of the technological device by students, it is costly to constantly upgrade the technology and technology may cause students to become highly dependent on the use of internet in order for them to discover or learn. I learned that there are six media that can be used once the lesson is planned properly. These are text, people, audio, video, visual and manipulative. Once the teacher is aware of the learning styles of the learners then an appropriate media can be incorporated within the lesson.

What I didn't learn was how to control the use of technology within the classroom.

The use of the internet that day could have made the class better. Also if there was sufficient devices or choices to the technological devices that I had available.

Question: Why should educators integrate technology in their classroom?

Answer: As an educator it is important to understand the importance of technology in the  classroom. Technology is described as anything that makes work easier. So, technology once used correctly make the learning and teaching process both easier for the teachers and students. Once the teachers are aware of their students' learning they can use technology to reach all the learning styles within the class. For example a video may be played that may capture the attention of a visual and audible learner. By means of manipulation tactile learners can be more involved since they are leaning through touch and discovery. Teachers can also use technology to communicate via

the internet to students even outside the classroom. They can send additional notes, homework, and even quizzes by using different available apps such as google doc. These can be retrieved at the teacher's convenience and students work can be better monitored. Technology allows for students to be creative in some subject areas there are other apps that provide available activities that allow them to do artistic and graphical demonstrations. Also technology will encourage the class to be more student-centered where students are the main focus in the learning process. Technology is a must for educators and should be implemented into the classroom once monitored and implicated properly.
